Friends, Californians Aware is entering the second phase of the Growth Fund campaign we opened last spring. That effort brought in almost $30,000, and so we have another $20,000 to go to reach our $50,000 goal.
That fund will allow us to hire at least a part-time professional executive director and do more of what we do best, as well as working on several new initiatives to train and assist sectors of the population that have distinct needs for informed and supported engagement in civic life:
- nonprofit news startups striving to fill the void left by downsized or closed community newspapers
- residents of homeowners associations administered by professional management groups
- new community organizing entities fostering collaboration to solve local or regional challenges
- high school student journalists and advocates seeking to inform and influence the student body
